Rihanna is quickly becoming more than a pop star. The 28-year-old singer is now a music producer, actress, fashion designer and more. Her brand is reaching into a broad range of industries.
Rihanna has had a busy 2016. After releasing an album every year from 2006 to 2012, Rihanna hadn’t dropped a new album before Anti appeared in late January. She is a co-owner of the Tidal streaming service with Jay-Z.
During New York Fashion Week, the pop diva unveiled a collection she designed for Puma. She’s now in the midst of a 63-city tour of the United States and Europe.
Ever business-savvy, Rihanna has her imprint, Westbury Road Entertainment. She’s also busy with a new agency, Fr8me, which represents makeup and hair artists and stylists.
Rihanna aspires to inspire others. She grew up wanting to do everything her brothers did, and that sentiment hasn’t changed. “Women feel empowered when they can do the things that are supposed to be only for men, you know?” she told Vogue. “It breaks boundaries, it’s liberating, and it’s empowering when you feel like, ‘Well, I can do that, too.’”
So what’s the deal with the so-called rivalry with Beyonce? The internet was abuzz when Beyonce released a single, Formation, the same week that Anti was dropping. Rihanna scoffs at the negativity, saying that the feeding frenzy about the supposed controversy is “just not what I want up to. Because I can only do me.”
Rihanna has had well-publicized romances with musicians Chris Brown and Drake, and baseball player Matt Kemp. Some reports say Drake and Rihanna have gotten back together. Rihanna demurs on her love life. With so many balls in the air, she says her schedule makes being single practical. When romance strikes, she says that schedule is “definitely going to be a challenge … but I have hope!”
